Beginning of RAM-ROM poetic and caring-for-aging-parent phase. This song is in dedication to a college mate who just debuted her first art exhibition, finished her master’s, and had a challenging year with departure of her dad she dearly loved. She shared the emotions of what she went through in an email and I actually replied her back in following love rhymes to simultaneously celebrate my trials and tribulations, my decision to return to corporate life which led me to re-purpose my biz website to a poetry blog, and look where that journey took me today!

artist to artist

those schoolgirl days
of telling tales and biting nails are gone
but in my mind,
I know they will still live on and on

unbelievable that i advanced from chaucer to myself
it isn’t easy but i tried, thanks pepperdene to tell

this e-tribute to you on your art show debut
you’re hotstuff, all the best and congrats to you!
i relate to all you emailed back aglow
it is meaningful to have a purpose and goal

it feels good to reach
the mountain tops you decide to climb
you’re fulfilled with peaks of joy sublime

poetic writing is tangible for me
who would have thought
the blog would be my medium free

for to keep all a secret does no one no good
the power of internet multiplies the food

This song is dedicated to a new friendship (common link was we once worked for the same company) met at a network event.  She was in transition looking for a job and I reached out and kept our friendship in hopes of giving encouragement and helping her through her transition, having been through many myself.

lunch obladi oblada

desmona had a job, now in the marketplace
gerry just celebrated 25 years of IBM pace
desmona says to gerry ain’t no time for him to quit
cos’ my hunt to be busy again ain’t complete

obladi oblada, life with work must go on
chimes a haunt, there’s no need to be forlorn
jarring words, don’t let work define thy worth
while waiting for godot, might as well mirth to birth

for 35 years you have built a home sweet home
now the girls have grown, where in life to roam?
desmona loves to design event dinnerware
listen to that inner fanfare, does she dare?

obladi, oblada
life with work must go on….
patati, patata
only once a life can be born….

This introspection came about a year after my father passed away and my mother had to face the stark reality of living alone.  She was going through a major transition plus brain seizure attacks triggered onset of dementia.  I was listening to evening news that talked about diarrhea-dementia-death troubling aged and so happened, exactly to my mother too.  It also triggered memory of my father who was a gambler in his youth punting 3-Digits lotto that offered hope to turn around his fortune to support his family.  It called attention to the fragility of temporal life.

3-D

various dimensions in life we can traverse
how deep in the kaleidoscope to immerse?
how wide a u-turn to reverse?
how long do we have on this universe?

my father, he was tailor
sews my wedding dress
my father was a gambling man
3-D to him is to overcome $$tress

just heard on television
a new 3-D dimension
diarrhea, dementia and death
now troubling mother’s living breath

how many dimensions does your kaleidoscope contain?
brings back sunday school reconfigured refrain
deep and wide, deep and wide
how deep and wide is your fountain flowing inside?

Backdrop:

This song sprung upon taking a break from housecleaning to get ready for family visitors coming to town to celebrate graduation ceremonies.

dust in the wind

neverending housecleaning filled the day
dirt and dust accumulated had to be kept at bay
where do they come from, why do they stay
to remind us that we eventually decay?

but as long as we are stuck here on earth
the dust we gather, can we turn to worth?
nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
all our money won’t another minute buy

some sobering questions God won’t ask at endgame
by then no one can no one blame
since what is shared is public domain
i shall add my paw dust to its terrain

God won’t ask what kind of car you drove
He’ll ask how many people you drove
who didn’t have transportation

God won’t ask the square footage
of your house in kokomo grove
He’ll ask how many you welcomed
to your home and to salvation

God won’t ask about the clothes
you had in your closet
He’ll ask how many you helped clothe

God won’t ask what your highest salary was
and perks you get
He’ll ask if you compromised your character to get it
and how it got bloweth

God won’t ask what your job title was
whether good or bad
He’ll ask if you performed to the best of your ability

God won’t ask how many friends you had
He’ll ask how many people
to whom you were a friend with sensitivity

God won’t ask what neighborhood you lived
He’ll ask how you treated your neighbor
God won’t ask the color of your skin
however mixed

He’ll ask about the content of your character
and tan of your earthly labor

same old song
just a drop of water in an endless sea
all we do
crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind

This reflection refrain came about from the heartbreak of seeing my mother tormented by another series of brain seizures and declining fast.

vergangenheitsbewaltigung

the germans have it
2 words in 1 long soundbyte meet
vergangenheits is the past
bewaltigung is management, mastering the mast
compressed together
struggle to come to terms with past matter
live with consequences of dark chapters of past rust
life’s collected dust

dust in the wind
all we are is dust in the wind

galatians 6:7 has another way of slaying it
here it goes
a man reaps what he sows

not counting spaces
19 letters in biblical wisdom prose
vs 25 letters used
the germans machen ein wort gross

quotes pastor and author charles swindoll
life is 10% what happens to us
and 90% how we respond to it all

world according to sk says
about life game and aim
life hands us different trump cards
how we play them out
lights our flame

at the bewitching end
the cpu breaks down and begins to rend
all fears and tears come to roost
a bit too late then to conquer demons let loose

so my friend
don’t wait till the end
conquer demons now, plant seeds of love and joy
positive karma to deploy

My poetry blog outlet took me deeper into myself to ponder on the different things that are important in different life stages.  My heart was singing “it is well, with my soul” and this outpouring resulted after catalytic resonating read of “Gift of the Sea” by Anne Morrow Lindbergh.

argonauta

today’s juggernaut
is discovery on argonaut
mentioned in Gift from the Sea
life stages using shell analogy

argonauta is a good place to be
synonymous with personhood harmony
“personal” relationship philosopher MacMurray delves
one which people enter as persons
with the whole of themselves

that are not self-serving and have no ulterior motive
transcending all values type of relationship locomotive
unlike an oyster clinging on the rock to define and survive
the argonauta can leave well-tracked beaches
and chartless adventures thrive

yes, it resonates well with my soul
liberated by a spiritual compass towards fulfilling life’s goal

I began my journey discovering my callings to coach, to reach out and touch, to extend a hand to those traveling some of the paths I have traversed.  I got my company to sponsor an onsite half-day career workshop in my volunteer efforts to a non-profit women’s network organization.  Step-back: to help me reconnect to Silicon Valley upon my re-entry back to Bay Area, an ex-Stanford alum and ex-HP connection passed along news of a women’s network event.  Little did I know what was in store for me upon becoming a  member and volunteer for that network.

mind your p’s and c’s

yesterday’s gleanings...

from a “career” management workshop
a couple of tips gained to polish one’s reputation knob
career stems from “carraria”, its medieval latin root
meaning road for vehicles, aha..a path in life to boot and toot

5 p’s encompasses instructor alan vengel gist
Person-who are u, your values, skills and interest list

P
erspective- what really matters is who u are in others’ eyes
for u see, therein the relative truth lies and survives

P
lace-are u in the groove for what might happen in the future
are u ahead of the curve
to anticipate career change to suture

P
ossibilities-consider maneuvers, what are the options galore
et voila they are:
vertical, lateral, enrichment, re-alignment, explore

P
lan-pick your choice, figure next steps, then sell and implore

to work this morning
770am radio blasting as i careen
spake pastor david jeremiah
the 5 c’s how fruitful a life is determined

C
haracter is cornerstone of who u are
exemplified by fruit u bear

C
onduct is how u behave
what u do, build and tear

C
ontribution is what u give, how u care
Conversation - what u say
could soothe or open wounds bare

C
onverts - are u planting seeds,
a difference make, dare to spare?

Backdrop:
This song reflects on journeys traversed and ponders on new adventures ahead as one year crosses into another.

einen guten rutsch

soon upon us from coast to coast
those downunder are first to toast
past year to introspect and roast
clean out the ledger, new year to post

what to delete, what to store
what do u want less, what do u want more
what remains as festering sore
what resolutions to create galore

how to better and strengthen inner core
brokenness to restore
each other further bore
release the spirit to greater heights soar

row harder towards lighthouse, don’t drop the oar
get rid of that bad habit or apnea snore
what drumbeat to follow or ignore
